• Artistic Statement

Hello, my name is Hallie Davis and I'm currently attending Texas State University in pursuit of my Technical Theater degree with a focus in costume design, construction, and wardrobe. My first experience with costuming was when I was in the fourth grade and began designing dresses. My parents thought I wanted to peruse fashion, but my sights were set on contributing to a bigger picture. Theater was the exact fit I was looking for. Every show I acted in, and saw I admired and studied the costume pieces of each character. Costumes were the part of the storytelling that captured my attention the most. All I wanted was to be part of its process. I began taking sewing lessons my freshmen year and I gained an amazing opportunity the summer before my senior year of high school. My theater teacher needed help with preparing the costumes and I volunteered my summer to help. She later gave me the role of costume designer for our schools Shrek the musical. The rest of my senior year I went on to design and construct four more shows for our school and community. I even won best costumes at the Betty Buckley Awards through Casa Manana in 2023, which gave me the push I needed to commit to a career in costuming. Since starting college, I've discovered the joys of working in Wardrobe and learned new sewing, drawing, and organization techniques that fuel my love for this craft. I'm excited and dedicated to continuing down this path.
